You may or may not be shocked to know that these pictures feature my bowl after washing fruit and veggies. All this dirt and grim came from just a handful of tomatoes, bell peppers and a carton of both blackberries and strawberries...ish. If this picture isn’t proof enough that you absolutely need to wash your fruits and veggies whether they come from the store, your garden or the local farmers market I don’t know what is!
We worry a lot in America about pesticides, organic versus non-organic foods and genetically modified organisms but I’m here to tell you there is an even bigger issue which is foodborne illness. Last year alone there were 48 million cases of foodborne illness in America, 95% of which could have been prevented by proper food handling. I know washing fresh produce adds an extra step in your already busy life but trust me it’s well worth it for the health of you and your family!
